Support A Democratic & Just New York
Members of the Coalition for a Democratic and Just New York have seen firsthand how economic inequalities contribute to making New York City unaffordable and unlivable, disproportionately affecting the African Diasporic/Black residents of this vibrant city. The spiraling costs of housing, mis-education, and healthcare, along with the lack of equitable job opportunities, continue to create insurmountable barriers for many individuals and families of African heritage.
The Coalition for a Democratic and Just New York has put forward a comprehensive public policy proposal that aims to address these pressing issues by advocating for policies that ensure economic, social, and racial justice for all of New York City’s communities. Their recommendations encompass affordable housing initiatives, increased funding for education in underserved areas, and support for minority-owned businesses, among other crucial measures.
Mayor-elect Mamdani has the unique opportunity to influence these necessary changes by reviewing and championing the Coalition's proposal. This initiative could pave the way for transformative legislation that not only addresses the immediate needs of the African Diasporic/Black community but also ensures sustained equality and justice for all New Yorkers.
Furthermore, the establishment of a series of public policy forums dedicated to engaging concerned members of the African Diasporic/Black community would create a transparent and inclusive platform for these voices to be heard. These forums would foster dialogue, promote accountability, and help tailor policies that meet the specific needs of these communities.
For these reasons, we urge Mayor-elect Mamdani to take action that could fundamentally change the lives of countless New Yorkers. Please sign this petition to support a review of the Coalition for a Democratic and Just New York’s policy proposal and the organization of public policy forums. Together, we can push for a fairer and more equitable New York City for everyone.

The Coalition for a Democratic and Just New York represents a constituency of African Diasporic citizens who propose that, as our voters have elected a new municipal government, “We the People” must demand that the Mayor and City Council embrace a governing philosophy in which Participatory Democracy and Justice are interdependent and enthroned.
The history of African Diasporic people instructs that justice for all citizens must be pursued democratically to be authentic, and the practice of democracy must promote justice for all citizens to sustain authentic liberties and freedoms.
